Dr. Tarek Tabbaa is a Michigan native and vitreoretinal surgeon who earned his medical degree from Wayne State University, graduating with distinction. He completed his ophthalmology residency in Cleveland at Case Western Reserve University, where he was selected to serve as Chief Resident in his final year. During this time, he played an integral role in resident education and program development.
Dr. Tabbaa subsequently pursued advanced subspecialty training in vitreoretinal surgery, further refining his expertise in the management of complex retinal disease at The Ohio State University. In recognition of his exceptional commitment to teaching and mentorship, he was honored with a resident-conferred Fellow of the Year Teaching Award.
Following his training, Dr. Tabbaa served as an attending physician at the Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where he participated in the care of veterans while continuing to teach and mentor ophthalmology residents in both clinic and operating room. He has contributed to the field through peer-reviewed research and publications, with academic interests centered on surgical outcomes, innovation in retinal care, and the advancement of ophthalmic education.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Tabbaa enjoys traveling, hiking, and playing sports. He is excited to return to his home state and provide exceptional care to patients throughout Michigan.
